Leaving for Florida this Thursday from the great white north. I can't believe that I forgot this or maybe I'm just getting old but do you run the generator on the way south while traveling if the only thing I'm going to use is the furnace?

I just can't remember if the house batteries charge while traveling or only on shore power/gen power.

thanks

Jim - while the engine is running, both house and chassis batteries should charge.

Tom is right. Don't waste fuel on the genny while driving for the furnace. The engine will keep your house batteries charged.

In the order of things, charging is best accomplished by : AFAIK
1) Engine alternator
2) A good PD92XX converter (off shore or generator power)
3) A 12V charger built into the generator (normally in the<10A range)
4) Solar panels at least 120W (remember, they only work in bright sun)
5) Rubbing a conductor on rabbit fur. (Humidity should be < 15%)
6) The wife on a treadmill charger.
