Rattling A&E Slide Topper

During the last couple of trips the slide top awning on my Sightseer has developed a rattle that sounds as if the internal mechanism is loosening. It rattles going over road bumps so loud that it sounds as if the noise is coming from something bouncing around in the cabinet. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.

The awning works fine. It is tight and retracts normally. When I bang on the awning roller, it sounds like the mechanism inside is very loose.

Has anyone out there seen this and been able to repair it themselves?

I've seen them cut fasteners, wind up the retracting mechanism by hand and secure it. I would believe that perhaps 1 side isn't wound properly. See if you can get your manufacturer's install directions on their website as a PDF.
