Rear slide caution.

We went down to the Good Sam rally in Dayton and were setting up. I was outside watching the movement of the slides and my wife was inside operating the slides. The rear bedroom slide started out and then stopped about half way out. My wife stopped the motion and reversed the slide ,pulling it back in. The problem.. the cabinet door on the nightstand had vibrated open and was acting as a wedge stop against the lip of the slide. You could not see this situation before opening the slide. The results this was the hinges on the door and the door itself broke. We were luckey that the slideout itself was not damaged. The door on the nightstand had right side hinges and should have had left side so that it would not act as a wedge if it comes open. This setup is common on units with the bedrooom closet slide. It may not be a problem for the larger coaches .

The night stand next to our rear slide has two drawers and a false drawer front that hides the Sleep Number Bed air pump. We had the false front come off and wedge between the wall and the slide frame. Not good.

I recently experienced the same problem, but with the drawer in the night stand. We had hit a rough bump in the highway and didn't give it much thought but when parking the wife ran the back slide out as I was connecting to the park utilities. Mid way it bound up & the wife stopped and retracted to find the drawer slide out and wedged against the slide. We now walk around the bed and check before extending.

This could be a place for magnetic latches to help prevent this type of unnecessary damage. We were luckey that we did not damage the slide box or the HWH system. That would really costly!

I have had the same problem two or three times where the drawer opened and stopped the slide from going out. A kiddy saftey latch would also work in correcting the problem of the drawer opening far enough to effect the slide out

I had a problem with the drawers giggling open on my 1999 Adventurer ...

I solved the problem by installing a brass eye-screw in the face frame between the top and middle drawers and dropping a 1/4" dowel down through the eye-screw and letting rest on the floor ...

I stained the dowel to match the cabinets ...

Update on broken nightstand door. I took the door off and into my shop and sure enough it was out of square . The hinges were completelly torn off the door. The screws held but the hinge metal tore like paper. I realigned the door and bought new snap close type hinges at a hardware store and reglued the thing back togeather. I put the door back on tonight and it fit fine. The wife ask why don't they use these hinges on all of the doors? They can cut their cost by using a simple pin type hinge without a closing device. I am considering going all out and spending say $15 and replace all of the hinges . I am always amazed at what lenghts manufacturers will go to cut cost! Thanks for your responses and I hope this never happens to anyone again.

The positive closing device is to keep the door from coming open while driving and some of the cabinet contents shift against the door.

I have a 38R just like Tom and my top kitchen cabinet door opened when we were moving the slide. Tore the door right off and bent the hinges. But, was able to glue everything back together. I think it is part of making the rig your own.

My neighbor bought a Horizon. On his first outing after loading it he made a quick stop and the cabinet over the kitchen sink opened. His wife's glass deviled egg dish flew out and smashed on the floor. The next time he put his driver's side front slide out all he could hear was glass grinding.

He had lots of problems with the '05 Horizon and traded in on a '06 Allegro bus. The Horizon had 3000 miles on it.
