Has anyone ever changed the coolant hoses and recovery bottle on a CAT 3126B ? I have a 2001 UA 40ft and repair shops in area want 1000 dollars to do. Can it really be that tough? They say four hours labor alone. Thanks

You can call Jon at Brazels RV Performance and ask him for a 2nd opinion. They work on CATs.

Do a quick search on this site for "Freightliner coolant recovery" and you will find lots of help.

Widgett33 On my 3126E I changed the coolant recovery tank myself...Not a tough job but tight space to get a socket on...Inh putting the tank back I used screw clips at an auto store...much easier than trying to get a nut behind the support bar...I had Freightliner change the hoses and belts at Gaffney...Reasonable cost and they replaced the coolant also...After 60,000 miles the belts and hoses looked like they could do another 50,000. YTech said the same thing. Isuggest buying a complete set and saving them for an emergency sitution....Does not appear to be a difficult job to do.....RKL

Not sure where you are but if you can get to the Freightliner Factory Service Center in Gaffney, SC, they can do that for you. However, assuming the $1,000 estimate covers the cost of new hoses, new reservoir, flush and refill with new coolant and the labor at probably $95 - $125 per hr. (depending on where you are), that may be about par.

I just fininshed this very job today. I was taking my time but I guess that I have about 5 or 6 hours or so in it.

7 Gal Prestone 100% Coolant 76.93
All new hoses and Recovery Tank from Gaffney 325.88
2 New Thermostats & gasket NAPA 29.56
11ft. of 3/8 hose for the rest of the connections 14.00
6 gal. distilled water 4.00

Total Parts $450.37

FYI-
Were original hoses and thermostats, hoses still looked fine and thermostats were holding steady temps
