I looked at several posts for an idea on how to remove the closet doors. Only thing I could find was that no one seemed to know so I thought I would post what I learned. It is actually very easy.

I lifted the small plastic inserts on the bottom of each door from the inside. this made it possible to lift the door out of the bottom track. then just swing the door towards the OUTSIDE of the closet and lift. They come off the bracket very easily.

By the way, I am building shelves in one half of the closet for more much needed space.

good information. I discussed this project last week with the DW. I would like to see pictures of your work when you get a chance.

I was thinking of changing our closet doors too because the overlap is 13 inches! The doors are to big for the opening! They are 36 inches and could be 30 or 32 inches. It just makes the access smaller.

I finished my closet shelf project. Very straightforward and easy. My wife and I are REALLY happy with the added storage space. The previous space became just a "throw all" location for all the stuff we really didn't have a place for. Now we have a place to hang our clothes (as we did before) AND lots of shelf space for all those hard to place items.

By the way, the closet doors tools about 5 seconds to re-install!
