Hi,
my converter (see subject) is very noisy - fan is extremely loud
It is located under a Kitchen drawer with no evident ventilation (except through drawes, cupboards, etc)
Can the fan be replaced?
I assume this is a single stage converter - what should I be looking at for a replacement?
Thanks,
Preston (who know nothing about converter/chargers)

Get the Prog. Dynamics 9260 w/ Wizard see - PD9260 Converter / Charger for RV with Charge Wizard : A.S.A.P.
and goto http://www.marxrv.com/12volt/12volt.htm for a primer on 12V systems for RVs.

Replaced mine with the Iota (model number escapes me right now) with the pendant indicator.

Replaced mine 1 month ago with the original type size and output, after 8 years it started making a lot of noise not sure if it was the fan or something else. Others suggested I replace it with an upgraded model but it would have taken major interior surgery to get it in as it was I had to do cutting to get the old one out from under the refrig. Apparantly the kitchen was built around it. I kept the old one I would like to get it tested somehow.

Mine is also under a kitchen drawer but has a vent grill under the drawer. It also gets some air from the furnace return air vent.
Mine gets noisy and I have to vacuum it out which usually makes it quiet again.
Last month after it was vacuumed it was was still noisy. I removed it and blew it out with my compressor. That did the job.
We have two dogs and a cat so I usually vacuum it a couple of times each year but I got lazy and hadn't done it for more than a year so it really had a hair/dust build up.
If you decide to remove yours note that the mounting holes are slots and you don't have to remove the ones on the back side which on mine are hard to get to.
I took the easy ones on the front side off and loosened the ones on the back. I was then able to slide it towards me and lift it out.

I will second the PDI 9200 line as a replacement.. NOTE with the 9200 you can mount it "Elsewhere" if you like..
Randy at best converters has upgrade hardware to replace the "Guts" of the 7400 or 7300 if you want to go with a good 3-stage Progressive Dynamics.
NOTE: The replacement converter may pay for itself.. Unless the model number on that parallex ends in "T" it is a single stage converter.. Not good for batteries.
My batteries are charged by a PDI 9180 with wizard (Equal to the 9280) and are 5 years old and still going strong.
