We have damage to our slide-out awnings from hail storm in Glendale, AZ. One was completly torn from the rv the other doesn't look too good. I'm a fair shade-tree mechanic; could I do the replacement? Are there anythings I should be aware of? Thanks Larry

Ouch Larry... we've been in Goodyear, Az for the past 10 days and most of the crazy weather has just missed us.

If you search on slide toppers I think you'll find a lot of advice from those who have done this job and it doesn't sound too tough at all... although I've never done it. I seem to recall many saying that they had purchased the material and had a local shop do the sewing for them but check it out and I'm sure you'll get some ideas.

Good Luck,

Rick

Yessir......done that. I removed the old toppers and had an awning shop make new toppers out of Sunbrella. Lots of colors to choose from. when you remove the old be sure to save the "rope" that keeps the toppers in the metal groove. On mine the two ends were different size "rope" or cords. Be sure you know which goes where.
A suggestion is to replace the wind up spring while you've got it apart.....particularly if you live in a higher humidity area. The wind-up springs rust and break.
Be careful of the torsion on the springs and follow the instructions on your awnings to set the correct "pre-wind" if you change out the springs.

Guess I misread the post...Do you mean the slide out toppers or awnings over the slideouts...
