Replacing Broken Leveler Spring

2004 Adventurer 38G, HWH Leveler System. This moring discovered a broken spring on my right front leveler. I replaced all springs in July 2010, the spring broke in the center, as opposed to the hook end. I wll purchase and replace the spring myself, however my concern is retracting that jack to make the repair. Since there is only one spring attached, when the jack retracts, what is going to happen ? My thoughts are that the foot will be pulled off the jack with force. Anyone ever encountered this problem, how did you approach it ?

The jack has a small tit welded to the end. that should hold it in place. The problem is that you don't have power retract. that is what the spring is for. It may not pull up without you getting a 2X4 and helping it back up. One spring is just not strong enough.

i purchased an 8' long 2x4. i put the jack down on the 2x4 and used it to lever the jack into stowed position until i received my new jack pad and 2 springs from hwh. ims i used the 2x4 for about a week last summer. the jack will retract easier if you lube the piston with atf.
i posted how i installed the new springs with pics in a campground last summer.
