Be sure to use Dex-Cool antifreeze, mixed to a 50% concentration. Prepare 6 gallons of coolant, a little more if you have coolant running through the water heater. The actual capacity of the 8.1 engine is 23.5 qt. but it's difficult to drain completely and refill with the full amount. Keep the extra in the RV to refill as needed.

I believe it only affected up to model year 2004. After that the changed the head gasket material.

Is there any 'green' coolant that is actually approved by Workhorse? Thought it always had to be Dex-Cool, which I've never seen in 'green'. -RT

Seems like the problem was on models up to 2004. TJ you are correct they changed the gasket material.

As far as I know they all come in Orange and I was told it has to be 50/50 mix

That's what I have always thought, so the original post about changing to 'green' confused me. I also did a 'Google' before my first post but couldn't find anything that stated 'green' coolant could be used in place of Dex-Cool. I'm glad you got it sorted out. -RT

Dexcool mixed with green antifreeze can make a gel that can block coolant flow.

I wouldn't do it.

By 50/50 I didn't mean half dxcool half green ones. That will be a Huge Mistake... I bought Preston 50/50 mix from Wal-Mart... $13 each.
