Retractable steps

2014 Navion My retractable steps stopped working . The motor runs and there is a little movement then stops . It has been well lubed. Has anyone experienced this ? Any suggestions ? Also is there any way to lock them in place ? I can push them up but they wont lock. Thanks

All depends on the manufacturer of your steps. I have Kiwi brand steps and the motor fails about every 2 years. Other brands have been recalled. To keep the steps up you need to use something to tie them in place.

Kwikee steps

If the steps are making a ratcheting sound it probably is the motor assembly. First you have to see what series your step are. Look underneath for a sticker or the series. ie. 40 series, 39 series. Also on the motor there may be a sticker with a part number. Kwikee has been bought by Lippert. Motor is not hard to replace on your own there are videos on youtube. Lippert is helpful to tell you where to find numbers or help diagnose call them at Lippert Customer Service

You can buy the motors on Amazon - and many other online places when you know the series steps you have.

I have replaced my motor twice now. Seems like once a year project.

You can maybe can get a replacement motor from the MH manufacturer. Tiffin sent me a new motor under warranty and my MH is over 2 years old. Kwikee step has a 2 year warranty. In the mean time I bought a motor from Amazon and while waiting for delivery realigned my motor so that it would not hit the internal stop before hitting the step assembly mechanical stop. Haven't had a problem in over a year. I Now have two spare motors.
