We need to reseal the seam of our roof to sidewall. What do we need to use after we clean out the old caulk. I heard that we should not use silicone caulk. What product do we use and where do we get it

judywend,
Welcome to IRV2. You have posted this question in a forum that is specific to the WIT club.Unfortunately this forum doesn't get much traffic, so you may not get many responses. I would suggest that you go up a level to the Winnebago owners group, where your question will receive much better exposure. As an answer to your question: silicone is a lousy adhesive and it is not very tolerant of UV. I used 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV. Warning - it does cure fast if you are working in sunlight or heat. Second warning - it's about $20.00 a 10 ounce cartridge and you will need 3 or 4 of them. Third warning - preparation is the key. Make sure you have removed all of the old adhesive. It takes a lot of scraping and sanding.

Judywend,
In this forum, I assume you have a Winne. I just resealed my roof edge. First I visited the Winnebago Ind manufacture website. There I got the Adobe plans for my unit wherein it has a call out sheet of partnumbers for what sealant to use where.

I used the eternabond about 3 years ago, it works great and is still working. It's a tape with some liquid material that seals it permanently. You unroll the tape down the seam, spread the material over the tape and then paint it the color of your RV. It worked great.

I don't think the sillicon caulk is strong enough to hold the seam very long. You will be doing it over and over. You risk the same thing I did, the inner wall getting wet and bowing out.

Iused Quick Roof tape on my front seam that had a pesky leak and it worked great.

There is a type for rubber roofs
Amazon.com: Quick Roof: Home Improvement
And one for non rubber roofs.
Amazon.com: Quick Roof, WHITE Aluminum Surface: Home Improvement

It comes in 3" or 6" widths and 16 or 35 Ft. lengths.
