roof water streaks

my 06 meridian really looks great after a wash not including the roof. the coach is supposed to be full body paint which includes the roof. i think.

after a rain shower, white/gray streaks appear down the sides, windshield and windows of the coach. a wash job takes off the streaks, i just know something need to be done to the roof, but what? my dealer says, just get up there and wash the roof, no wax needed, and the streaks will stop. if anyone has tips on this subject, i would so very much appreciate them.

All the crud on the roof has to go somewhere. So down the sides is the easiest route. Either wash the roof or keep washing the sides. At least that's what I do

Strange as it may seem, "full body paint" means sides, front and back ...and often the roof cove. The top is white gelcoat fiberglass. I've thought about having my roof painted ...it sure would help to clean it I believe. But it would make it very slippery to walk on I imagine!

I wash and wax my roof once a year usually in late spring. I am finding as I age it is getting a lot harder to get up there and do it.

well finhawk, i took your straight forward advice and cleaned that booger roof today. the weather was pleasant 68 deg, cloudy, and a little wind.
yep it's full body paint alright, and it's fiberglass just as one of you other guys said. that's something ya don't wanna do every month.
that booger is 40', so i put on my overalls, kneepads, and headed for the roof. and a couple hours later it actually was white instead of charcoal gray. at purt near 70, i made it! sure did look nice when finished. then i washed to coach and waaalaaa no streaks. probably will be a chore getting out of bed in the morning. thanks alot guys.

I do mine about every two years ...one year I had waited a bit longer than I should have and had to scrub it on my hands and knees ...it took six months for my scrubbing shoulder to fully recover... I was around 56 or 57 that year...

I'm past all that hard work, I get out the chair, pop a cold one and get her done every Winter in Yuma. Piece of cake. I do make sure the one doing the roof is the smallest.

I just did my 32 footer, took two hours. I used a short bristle brush on a handle so I could do it standing up. It takes some major hard scrubbing to get most of the black specs off. Wore me right out. Loooking back, I wish I would have dragged the electric floor scrubber up top. Another hour the next day to wash off all the crud that ran down the sides. I hope I can still do it when I turn 70. Hats off to you guys.

Now if I can get a streak of warmish weather I want to wax it.

Two days prior I replaced the shower skylight. With the wind blowing and the tiny leaves off the Locust tree nearby, my self leveling white silicone now has little leaves stuck all over it. Ugh... But that sucker isn't going to leak for a looong time. I seated it in white butyl tape, a step the factory didn't bother with.

A friend was having the same problem with water streaks and he painted the roof of his Journey with Rustoleum high gloss paint and the streaking did stop. Of course the high gloss paint made the roof very slick when wet so extreme care must be taken when he is on the roof.

He used a roller to paint it and I believe he said it took him about 3 hours for the prep and painting.

I washed mine last week using a telescoping brush handle. I then squirted Mop and Glo on it and spread it around. Supposed to rain tonight so we'll see if the streeks are lessened.

I wear deck shoes when I do mine.

Got tired of mine streaking as well, and scrubbing removes the dirt but doesn't solve the chalking issues.. I finally went up and waxed the entire thing to seal it up (that's the only way to stop it from chalking). I wasn't nice about it at all, squirt the wax on and power-buff it into the entire roof. Came back the next day and the same 10" buffer and a pile of towels and buffed it out. Was it close to perfect? Don't care...

THIS ONE was a booger having to deal with pivoting 4 solar panels to work underneath, crawling between the panels: up or down, and dealing with a VERY thin piece between the panels and the edge. If you do it, get GOOD knee pads and mechanics gloves because it's going to get very slippery up there.

Has anyone tried this floor finish Shop Red Max 128 Oz. Low Maintenance Floor Finish at Lowes.com? I'm told it has almost the same ingredients as PolyGlo wax but I don't know.
