SAE15W40 Synth or Regulr for ISL 8.9 450hp
Hey Y'all, I'm back with some brain pickin'. This has most likely been handled b4. So if it's gonna frustrate ya, by all means don't answer. But if you have a lil time pls reply.
I have a Itasca Ellipse/Winnebago Tour Cummins ISL 8.9 450 Hp, 2012. I always used Regular oil. But I have an oil change coming up. Soooo....who here swears by Synthetic oil and Why and who here swears by Regular oil and why.
My take is that if I was to change my oil every 7k I'd probaly go with Synthetic, but since I'm retired and Really have nothing better to do and literally get so board at times, I change my oil every 3.5-4K and just use Regular.
Oh yeah and I use 24-24.5 quarts what about Y'all? What's y'all favorite brand?
thanks so much in advance.

Full synthetic. Yearly of 12,000 mile oil changes. Synthetics resist breakdown better

The engine was designed for normal dino oil. Cummins doesn't say not to use synthetic but they say you still have to use the same change schedule.

Cummins built the engine to use dino oil. They stand by their warranty and that is with dino oil, so why would you change?
Synthetic oils are great for extreme conditions, but you are running in pretty normal conditions.
With your oil change intervals, your engine should out last the rest of your rig, no problem.
Happy Glamping.

Diesel engines were made to run on dino oil 2 of the best is motorcraft 15/40 ( cj4) and rotella 15/40, had a Monaco with 8.3 isc always in 100 degree heat, ran motorcraft for 45,000 miles, changed every 5,000, sold it with 125,000 on it, no issues.

Haven't tried it , but I would stick to name brand oils . Used a generic brand yrs ago from a discount store and the engine in my car threw a rod. Since then I have always stuck to name brand oils.
Unless the manufacturer recommends synthetic , stick to the Dino oil. The most important thing is frequent oil changes to get all the small particles out that the filter can't catch.
