We have a 2004 Sunrise. This summer we plan to go to some places without much or any local tv service. I know the unit comes 'satellite hookup ready'; but we do not have the money to purchase a dish for the roof. How do we go about hooking up a satellite receiver and cable to put the dish on a tripod on the ground?

I used to run cable from dish under frivers door up to cabinet where rec. was. Have roof mounted dish now. Once in a while I have to do it the old way when in lots of trees.

You can use the TV cable input on your unit for the external dish input, but there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.
First there can't be a splitter between the dish and the receiver. If there is one, you can substitute a special kind of splitter called a diplexer for it and solve that problem. You can get a diplexer from Radio Shack for a few dollars.
Second, in many cases the TV antenna amplifier must be turned off when you are actually using the dish.
If you go to the Winegard site you will fnd a number of diagrams showing typical ways to connect the dish.
Using a switch box as they show in one case eliminates the need for a diplexer and also the need to turn off the amplifier when using the dish.
You can get a dish from a number of places including Best Buy, E-bay and yard sales
