I realize I'm asking this in the wrong forum but you've all been so helpful so far that I feel more comfortable asking here.
Could somebody give us a quick procedure for signing up for DirectTV for the RV only? We want it only for the RV as we have a very cheap cable service for the house and we aren't at the house that often anyway.
We have a Kingdome in-motion dome on the motorhome.
Do we call DirectTV directly and they come out and give us the receiver for the RV? ...or do we pick it up somewhere? Or should we call an agent for DirectTV?
Sorry for the newbie questions but like I've said, all of you have been so helpful so far. Should I post this in another forum or over at RVnet's open roads forum or can any of you give us a quick answer?
Thanks!

Amanda,
You can pick up a DirecTV receiver thru a distributor, electronics distributor, or directly from DirecTV. You choose the package you want at the point of purchase.
To get Distance Network Services, which provide you east coast and west coast feeds for the major networks (abc, nbc, cbs), you need to deal directly with DirecTV. You are required to sign a waiver with a copy of your motorhome registration, and send/fax it to DirecTV. It will take some time (maybe other than the fax process) to have them receive it and activate the DNS service. You can download this waiver from DirecTV.com, and also get info on the DNS process there.
Note if you sign up for local channels in your area, you will not be able to receive them once you travel outside of your area. Since you have cable at home, opt out for the local channels, and sign up for the DNS service.

We dropped cable at home and signed up with Dish Network and they came in and installed the dish for the house and gave us a receiver for the coach. All we had to do is set it up and call them to activate the unit in the MH.

Another option might be to sign up for the Directv DNS service WITH your local channels and just take the receiver with you when you leave in the coach and back to the house when you return. You could save the cost of your current cable subscription but I'm not sure if they will install a home dish for a receiver with DNS approved. This would give you full service at home and then when you travel with the receiver you can still receive networks via the DNS.
What we've done is to take our Tivo receiver (if you've never had Tivo you should try it!) from the house when we travel. We can't get local channels (including major networks) once we're 100 miles from home, but we get everything from channel 100 up and there's no additional cost. Networks/local channels can usually be picked up via the CG cable of your over the air antenna.
Good Luck
Rick
