I bought a used Winnebago class C. On the screen door is some type of magnetic looking switch. It is about 1 1/2 inches long and closes against another like piece when the door is closed. I thought it might have something to do with the power step. Previosly owner said it had to be kept clean for the slide to work. Does anyone know what it really does?

It is the magnetic switch which controls your automatic step.

Make sure it works; otherwise your step may not retract when the engine is turned on, and you drive away with your step extended.

It does control the step. You may want to check something else out. On some models, there is a safety override and when the engine is started, the step will retract whether the screen door has retracted the step or not. This is a safety feature built in on some to prevent the driving off with the step out.

Thanks for the info. I did not think it had anything to do with the slide but he said he cleaned it once when the slide would not come in and after it worked fine. Power step comes in when engine is started. Thanks for the warning, previous owners wife broke leg stepping out with the step in.
