That just came up in a conversation last night. We were thinking about a door alarm for the coach. Recently had a friend that got ripped off while away from their coach, lost 2 computers, cell phone and clothes as well as anything else that could be easily and quickly grabbed.

Were doors locked...to include dead bolt?

I've thought about a security system for some time and never felt strongly enough about it to actually buy/install one.

There are two major scenarios - the coach in storage, and the coach in use.

I have heard about storage facility burglaries. If I had my coach in storage, I would seriously consider an alarm system.

Those other times when you are traveling in the coach, no, I have never felt the need for an alarm. There is always a first time, though.

Yes the coach was locked and deadbolted but where there's a will, there's a way. The particular events happened to numerous RV's that were left unattended, in the same location, at a rally. People were away from the area where the coachs were parked at a function so no one was around. An alarm in one of the units might just have scared them off.

We keep our coach parked on a lot with driveway next to our home and there are times when I think of all the goodies in there that could be ripped off. Just the hassle with the insurance could be a pain, and it might, having an alarm system, reduce the insurance cost on the coach.

I would like to have an alarm system. The problem comes when the coach is in storage. I had one on a coach years ago and the alarm would wear down the batteries within a week or so with the alarm set. It would be ok when parked somewhere but a PITA when it is stored.

I really haven't loked in to any systems yet but it would seem that there has to be a way around the battery drain problem during extended storage. Now that I am thinking about all of this I will continue my quest and find some solution to it all.

Remember if you want the coach to be really secure you not only need to consider the main door, but also the windows and storage bin doors. Lots of alarm contacts, could be an expensive system. I'm truely surprised that the factories haven't considered this as an option during the building of the coach.

I'd start with a good locksmith and do both locks on main door and rekey the driver and pax door as applicable....and storage bins. Need to get totally away from any link to factory lock master system. Best deterence is a good lock system not anyway linked to factory locks. Post fake alarm stickers on windows. Post beware of dog sticker on door. Buy slider window locks or window pin locks. Forget fancy costly alarm system.
