Shut off steps?

Is there an easy way to shut off the stairs on my 2000 Adventurer so that they do not extend when the door is opened? My friends MH when the stairs switch is off, it stays in what ever position it is in, up or down. My MH with the step switch off the stairs will extend when the door is opened and stay down.

I would like to keep them up sometimes like when I work on the batteries or park near a rise. Am I missing something? Thanks

This works on my coach.

Try seperating the screen door from the main door first. Close the screen door with the plastic slide for the handle left open. The step will automatically retract like normal. Put your hand throught the hole for the door handle and reach inside and flip the switch up to OFF position. Now when you open the screen door the step will not slide out. Catch the screen door back to the main door. This also cuts off the power drain of the auto step from your battery when in storage.
