This weekend I removed and replaced the bathroom skylight. It went fairly straight forward. Removing the old caulk was the pain. But once it was off then it was just a matter of cleaning the area good and then putting the new skylight in place. I have posted pics in the Members Gallery, http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=22561&sort=1 .

The skylight is held in place by 4 brackets (3 screws each) I did replace the screws with one size larger.

Thanks Winnebago for being able to get replacement skylight that fit just like the old one.

Thanks for posting that information and good job. On my '02 Journey, I ended up putting Eternabond tape over the skylight caulk to keep it from leaking. Happy Travels! John

Only those corner pieces secure the skylight? Must rely pretty heavily on whatever caulk is used to hold and seal properly! The shower skylight in our '88 would take dynamite to remove, PLUS the caulk to seal it up...

I just replaced my skylight on a 35U Adventurer. It was held on by 21 (yes, really) screws. I also used slightly larger screws.

I've replaced 2 of these skylights. One form cracks and the other from storm damage. Both times I used the putty tape and stainless steel screws. Never counted them but used more than came with the stock skylight but what I learned was not to tighten them down too hard and allow for expansion and contractiion.

I just replaced mine. Sharpened up a steel putty knife to help remove the caulk, worked great. Don't worry about digging the putty out of the old phillips head screws, a good screwdriver will dig in with some good pressure and back them out. Toss the old ones. I used butyl tape to seat the skylight and used the Winnebago self levelling silicone along the edges and to fully cover the steel corner tabs and screws. I just wish I had ordered new hold down brackets, 4 in my case. They were a bit rusty, but they are now fully entombed in white goop.

The old skylight must have had 3 layers of different self levelling goop applied at different times and it still leaked. Looked like the factory stuff was silicone, with rubber roof repair stuff on top. I was surprised the factory didn't seat it in butyl first.

Tips in previous threads warned about over-tightening the screws, I heeded the warnings all all turned out well. Also after scraping all the old goop off off the roof, I wiped it down with automotive grease and wax remover, like you would before painting. I didn't wany any of MY goop lifting off.
