Slide goes out part way and stops

We have a new 2008 Itasca 30 ft Sunstar motor home. This unit has one living-dining slide which has worked perfectly since we purchased it 3 weeks ago but today the slide would only go out a small distance. The top is only out two or three inches and the bottom is out about six inches. It looks to me as if the awning over the slide may be sticking and causing the slide out operation to stop.

When I moved this unit this morning I did brush against some branches and am wondering if I could have done something to the awning mechanism?

I have tried all the trouble shooting techniques in the operator manuals (battery boost switch, slide out power circuit breaker, parking brake was on and motor was running) No green light error message was flashing. Nothing has worked but there is no mention of a damaged awning being a possible problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

Get a ladder to be able to reach the slide topper. You should be able to unroll it by hand at least a few inches. If you can't unroll it beyond where it appears to be stuck then you know you've got a problem with the slide topper. If you attempt to try to fix it yourself be very careful as the spring that makes the topper rewind is pretty strong.

HI Jim--I am assuming that it will not come back in? Does the anti-billow arm on the awning look to be in the right position--not sticking on the awning? Let us know what you find out. Good luck with your problem. John

Thanks for the good tips you all sent. The awning was stuck which I was able to release by pulling gently on the lever on the top front while my wife was holding the "out" switch. Just a gentle tug got everything moving.

Good deal Jim! Looks like we have the same coach. I just purchased mine (a new 2009) the first of April after we sold our 36' 2002 Winnebago Journey in March. This should be our last coach, after 3 diesels and 2 gas we are looking forward to simplifying our RV lifestyle. So far we like what we see with our 30B and are getting ready for our first trip to Yellowstone on the 19th. Good luck with yours and Happy Travels!!

John

Glad the tips worked for you, Jim. Looking forward to seeing you all in the Black Hills or Ft. Robinson!
