Slides don't operate if parking brake is not applied

I recently found that my slides would not extend. A mechanic had parked the motorhome after replacing the Norcold cooling unit. The camper was level and we needed to extend the slides, but they would not extend.
It took a few minutes to figure out that the jacks were not down. While attempting to put the jacks down I found that the parking brake was released, red light on. After I applied the parking and put the jacks down the slides extended normally.
The slides also will not retract electrically if the parking brake is not on.

Perhaps will help someone down the road. This could be a problem if you have a failed parking brake sensor. I spray a little silicone lube on the parking brake mechanism a few times a year to ward off problems.

My parking brake needs to be set as well for the two systems to work.

On mine when you try to extend the slides with the parking brake not engaged, a small red LED on the slide control panel labeled "Parking Brake" flashes.
My slides are made by Kwikee. Don't know about HWH slides.

I think every manufacturer has slightly different procedures. On my Thor, parking brake must be set and engine running to extend the jacks. Conversely the slides will not extend or retract with the engine running. I'm not sure if the slides are parking brake dependent, since it is always set after deploying the jacks.

it makes perfect sense to have your park brake set when operating the slides or jacks, or air leveling. you dont want the coach moving when either of these systems are being used
. i dont know of any coach that doesnt have this built into their systems. i could be wrong. ive learned to never say never.
it is a safety feature designed into every system, by all manufacturers, and a common practice for the owner to set the park brake first.
without the park brake requirement, the jacks or slide could be deployed while the coach is moving. a disaster in the making.
