On another thread I am investigating my Tru Air airconditioning unit and now I need to get into the innards to replace a fan capacitor. Has anyone had any experience in sliding out the unit. I thinh I read somewhere that you just need to disconnect the electrical connections and the lpg ( it is also the furnace unit ) and the unit can be slid out, the ducting remains intact in the outer shell.

Anyone done this and can give me any advice

Thanks

There is no lpg line to the A/C unit. And you will not have to remove the unit to replace the capacitor. First, open up the grill on the side of the motorhome that covers the A/C unit. Next, on the left side of the unit there is a service access panel that is held in place with 1 screw. Remove that panel. Now look for the brown/white and the brown wires that should be connected to a capacitor that is held in place with a steel strap and screw on the lower left corner of the opening. That is the capacitor that you need to replace.

If in fact you do have to remove the unit, this may help you.
1. There are (2) 1/2" bolts underneath at the front ends of the unit, where the grill is secured. They will need to be loosened to allow the unit to drop down out of its cavity.

2. I would not disconnect the electrical lines, as Winnebago has left enough slack to bring the unit out of its cavity, which will allow access to remove the top panel of the unit.

3. You will have to remove several screws at the rear of the unit where the duct work attaches for the incoming chilled air. You will have to remove the screws on both side and the bottom, while leaving the top row, and the plastic molding attached. This will allow you to re-connect the duct work with minimal work.

4. With the electrical cables still hooked up, just pry the top of the unit down with a medium sized flat bladed screwdriver, where the outside sheet metal and the unit meet at the top. This will release the unit and it will fall on the support that you lowered in step 1.

5. All of the work can be accomplished to the unit in this position.

Once the unit is functioning after the repairs have been made, just perform the above in reverse. I will tell you that when you re-install it, it is a tight fit!

Good Luck,
Dgold2

Hi Dgold2

That is very detailed advice, just what I needed to have the confidence to give it a go. I'll start the job at the begining of a long weekend!!!

Many thanks

Thanks for the info, but I contacted RV Products and they are saying I need to replace the capacitor that is actually on the blower itself and I need to slide the unit to accass it. I will certainly check out the capacitor on the control panel as you suggest first!
Thanks
