I had a lube and oil change done on my Journey with the Cat. 3126 engine about a week ago. I checked the oil today and its overfilled by about 1/4 in. above the full mark. It was driven about 30 miles after the oil change and has been sitting ever since.
should I be concerned?

Before you do anything further, verify that the correct amount of oil for both the pan and filter was installed. You man have a dipstick calibration issue and nothing more. If you have an overfill problem and the resultant foaming, you should be able to see it on the dipstick - tiny bubbles. I wouldn't get too hyper at this point.

The only "problem" you are likely to have is a little excessive blow-by which could more quickly dirty/plug a rear radiator and put more spots than normal on a toad. My Cummins oil capacity is 21 qt, and twice service places have automatically put 26 qt in it as that is what they are used to in truck engines I guess. Now, when I take it in for an oil change, I make it very clear that I will only be paying for 21 qt, so that is what I expect them to put in it. My dipstick has never showed any evidence of foaming in spite of showing a little over-full.

Ron, call CAT with your engine s/n to see if there is a calibration issue with your dipstick. They will also tell you the exact capacity for your engine, and how to calibrate the dipstick.

As AFChap has stated, the issue will be blow-by out your slobber tube into your radiator and onto your toad.
