Sony Backup & Trip Tek display

My Trip Tec was installed at the factory in 2004 while other work was done. Does everyone display only work with IGN switch in run?? I would like both displays (on Sony monitor) to be usable in the Accessory position for outside security use & to avoid hearing that BUZZER while reprogramming the Trip Tek. I understand the reason for connecting it this way may have been to prevent drain on battery, but the monitor has a power switch to shut it down if not needed.
