Common issue when we upgrade our TV's. If your new TV has a 'variable audio' output, you can control volume of the surround sound with the TV remote. I'll bet you only have a 'fixed audio' output and that will blast your ears, for sure.
You have some options:
1. open the TV cabinet and solder output wires to the speaker terminals and use those to feed you surround sound.
2. plug the surround sound into your headphone jack (if the new TV has one) and that will work. However, it will kill the speakers on your TV and you will be limited to the surround sound.
3. install a stacked potentiometer in the lines going from your TV to the surround sound. That is what I did but then you will need to manually adjust the volume. So, I plan to pull my TV soon and solder wires to the speaker terminals.
There may be other options but some of the other technical experts on the forum will have to advise.
