Common issue when we upgrade our TV's. If your new TV has a 'variable audio' output, you can control volume of the surround sound with the TV remote. I'll bet you only have a 'fixed audio' output and that will blast your ears, for sure.

You have some options:

1. open the TV cabinet and solder output wires to the speaker terminals and use those to feed you surround sound.

2. plug the surround sound into your headphone jack (if the new TV has one) and that will work. However, it will kill the speakers on your TV and you will be limited to the surround sound.

3. install a stacked potentiometer in the lines going from your TV to the surround sound. That is what I did but then you will need to manually adjust the volume. So, I plan to pull my TV soon and solder wires to the speaker terminals.

There may be other options but some of the other technical experts on the forum will have to advise.

Go to the TV menu. Most newer sets have an option to output fixed OR variable audio output.

I had the same problem and did smlranger's option 1. Use the filter/wire from the old tv and solder one wire onto each of the speakers. Simple job. The good thing about doing this is the speakers will work with the same remote you use for changing channels etc which is probably the sat receiver remote. If you no longer have the filter you can get one through RiverPark. I no longer have their number but you can get it from their website. Ask for support.

my tv has to be set to ''video monitor'' for the sound to work.
