spacemaker coffee machine removal

hi..i had a post in the appliance forum on replacing my unit and have decided to go with a countertop unit instead of replacing the spacemaker(2001 itasca 35u)..no one there specifically addressed the hole that will be left when the current unit is removed..and after removing the unit i find that the brackets are held on by bolts from the top with no apparent access to the screwheads..i would appreciate any info on how to proceed with the bracket removal and if anyone has converted the open space for other uses...thanks..jim...

Our previous coach, a 2000 Horizon, had an interior 'bottom' inside the cabinets as well as a 'bottom' outside the cabinets. There is sort of a dead space, wire chase between them. We found this out when some ants discovered packets of hot chocolate mix in one of them. IF it is the same set up with your coach, the interior bottom will come out and you should see wires for the under cabinet lights etc there. Hope this helps.

Doc is right on the money. Just empty the cabinet above and remove the bottom of it.

The shelf above is hollow. You need to gently pry the top off the shelf in order to remove the bolts.

In order to run wires and save weight, much of the cabinetry in an RV is hollow or made with a foam core so there will be enough chassis capacity left to carry some people and their stuff.

Another choice is to leave the bolts to help attach whatever you decide to put in the empty space left by the coffee pot. That way you won't be making holes in the side of the adjoining cabinetts or the back wall.

Myself, I put in another coffee pot adding some strips of fir inside the hollow shelf to reinforce the mounting points

thanks for the replies..using a mirror, i was able to see what appears to be small nails holding the floor of the storage area above the coffeemaker and about a 1/16th inch gap on the edge where i might be able to get under and pry it up..it looks doable but not easy..jim..

Space Saver Coffee Maker, CCM1000 check this out. Look around may be able to find it cheaper. I have one and it works well sitting on the counter or you can mount it if you like..Good Luck

3rd Times The Charm We Hope!

The space just lends itself so well to support an under counter coffee maker that I can't pass up the space utilization benefit. The 3rd machine brews the coffee and then shuts itself off. The coffee is retained in a thermal carafe and stays warm enough for me to polish it off. Basically no pot of coffee survives for very long in our home so this is a good solution for us.

Somebody's hard on coffee makers. Maybe you need to switch to hot tea .

Our original B & D spacemaker still works and I really like it so hope it keeps on keeping on. However, it seems B & D keeps changing the design. You said the carafe is thermal (which I prefer) but the pics show a glass carafe. Also, when I google that machine, all I find have the glass carafe.

FYI, with our current coffee maker, we put a piece of non-skid mat under the glass carafe while moving and it has never come out of the space, in spite of my wild and crazy driving.

our original spacemaker lasted 8+ years of full timing..but the reviews i have seen of the new designs made me decide on a countertop unit when i buy..we are in storage at the time so i will wait awhile and maybe a new improved spacemaker will come out..in the meantime we are using a $17 mr coffee which does well..we brew 12 cups,put it in our thermos, and it stays drinkable for 4-5 hours..FYI when we travel, we put the glass carafe in the sink on the kitchen hand towel..jim

Hooray it's not just me!

I just asked my DW the question as to whether or not our current coffee maker turns itself off and she said it brews into a carafe and shuts off! I guess we're both loosing some marbles but I knew that already!

Our last machine was a thermal carafe and it just gave up the ghost after a very brief time in service, less that a year. when we pushed the ON button, "Nothing!"

Just changed ours in a 2003 adventurer 35U after the carafe broke, ours had 4-3/8 small screws in the shelf above removed them and thenthe panel could be removed to get at the 4 bolts holding the coffee pot, since we could not find a space saver unit to replace it with we put a digital photo frame in the empty space so now we have a picture slide show all the time
