Spare tire odor

We have a 2008 Sightseer 29R. The spare tire is located in a compartment under the bed with access from an outside door. On hot days, particularly where the sun hits that side of the MH, when you go to bed the odor from the tire can be over powering. It seems that there is a small square hole in the middle of the wood under the mattress and, it does not fully meet the outside wall. Is there any problem with sealing these openings up or does this compartment need to be vented? Are there any other solutions?

I'd seal it up. make sure this isn't a hole to cooling some kind of electric component.
and you could try a opeen container of bakeing soda.
