Originally I had a 30 mph error on my speedometer. I received some good information stating that my problem was most likely that I was in the KPH mode. After pressing the trip reset button and holding for an extended period the speedo began to read correctly according to my Garmin GPS. However the remedy was short lived, the speedo today pegs at 100 and the trip meter acts like a timer and starts a count up in seconds as soon as it's reset. At first when the ignition was turned on the speedo would indicate about 40 mph and start climbing on it's own when the coach was sitting still. Subsequent tries of the ignition switch pegs the speedo. Sounds like an open or grounded circuit, but I'm not sure where the pick up or signal generator is. The back of the dash unit is enclosed. Any help or direstion would again be greatly appreciated. The tachometer give an accurate indication.

gcipra, 6 days and no responses! It would appear that the event you are describing is quite rare. I hope that you can achieve some resolution in this matter perhaps it needs to be evaluated by a dealer. Unfortunately digging into the problem MIGHT consume time, read $$.

Do you know who makes the speedo? Hopefully there is service available, maybe even w/a service manual. First step is to figure out your setup.
I'm familiar w/two gauge methods. First is a set of gauges, fed by a catch-all computer module that sets in between the engine-ecu/trans-ecu/ABS/other-sensors and the gauge set to turn the variety of miscellaneous signals into gauge input signals; the "interpreter computer" reads the 1587, 1939 or other data stream(s) to derive vehicle systems status used in gauge or idiot light outputs. The other method is to have a gauge cluster set that contains the interpreter computer internal to a master gauge or gauge cluster frame, and the the gauges, idiot lights and warning buzzer(s) are "slave" devices to the interp computer. Actia makes a large array of the latter, and has a service department in Elkhart IN. c.1999/2000 Borg-Warner made gauges that interfaced w/an intermediate computer and a company named Medallion made (makes) Vehicle Data Computers, not sure if BW still does but Medallion still makes service VDCs.

Just yesterday I had the same thing happen on my Journey.
Error message on the computer read something about "no response from ECU in 25 seconds" and speedometer was not working. After stopping and restarting a couple times it worked normal again.
What happened???
