Steer Safe - Workhorse Chassis

I have the Steer Safe device on my 04 Suncruiser. It was installed June 08 by Camping World. It has about 1500 miles and has been an excellent addition to the chassis.

However, this past week in Florida for the winter,I was turning the wheels while manuevering into my spot and heard a loud bang. Later, I found the forward spring laying on the ground. The fulcrum bar was canted to the left and the other spring was still connected.

It seems that the axle bracket let loose and slipped towards the wheel allowing the springs to become loose (one popping off).

I do not know if the torque value of the axle bracket was not correct at installation or if something else is going on. I will be at a Camping World for scheduled maintenance next week and will have them check it out.

Has anyone else had this occur in the Steer Safe installation and if so, what was the outcome? I will post my results after my visit to CW

I have had Sterr Safe on 2 MH's.
First was on a 87 Algroe on a P chassis. I hade a spring break or fall off. All I know is it was gone. ( installed a set on my W-20 also)
I contacted Steer Safe. They sent me a new set of springs for both sides of the MH. "Free"
I put them on myself.

Now your may have come loose, could have got into some soft ground in a CG and broke them.

If you can check and fix them yourself fine. If not you will have to go back to CW. Beleave Steer Safe have a life time warranty

I've had my Steer Safe brackets loosen up & slip. I just snugged them up again. Don't know the torque value, but elbow torque was "substantial".

The brackets have to be set equal distance both sides. This is to keep wheeks center and give even tension.
