Storage Bay Weight Capacities

Does anyone know what the weight capacity is in the Journey/ Meridian bays when under the slide-outs (specifically the 34 & 36)?

It doesn't seem to be listed anywhere.

Jeff, your best answer is going to come directly from Winnie. I know there is a limit, but each model year may be different.

I have heard the answer, but can't remember what I heard..Too many senior moments lately.

I had Winnebago's technical training manager tell me something on the order of 200 pounds (if my memory is functioning correctly.) He could have said 250 pounds.. it was two-something.

Sounds like it is something between 200 and 300 lbs. Wonder if anyone actually weighs the stuff they plan to put in the store-more...I didn't

I have been told 300 pounds by three different Winnebago guys. An area rep, a factory technician and a factory customer service supervisor, so I went with that number.

I actually did weigh everything that went in my StorMor compartments as it went in and it came up to 280 pounds - about 100 pounds of the weight is tools.
I have been traveling with it for 4 years and 32,528 miles with no problems so far.
I do check it over carefully every so often for bends, cracks, and etc.

These are the numbers I remember being tossed around when this came up awhile back, but also couldn't remember if it were the slide bays or the sliding shelf (maybe they're the same).

The reason this came up is that a friend is picking up a new-to-him 04' Journey (that looks like it just came off the showroom floor), and he reports that both of the 3/8" bolts carrying the rear of the slide bays are broken!

I haven't seen it, but neither of us can imagine BOTH being broken due to overloading of the bays. You could easily lift a VW on 2 3/8" bolts as a static lift, and that's all this really is... Given that, there is no structural damage anywhere -an indication that this was a shear failure. He says looking at the bolts it's unclear if this was a dead-weight snap or a shear.

Does anyone have any comments/ ideas/ suggestions about this? I'm heading over to the MH right now to look at these bolts he's referring to (and finish waxing it since it'll be almost 80 today

I am upset with the 80 degrees as right now it is 15 degrees in Rochester, NY and we will not leave to go south till the end of this week.
I was told by a Winnebago rep that 250 lbs should be max in the compartments and have tried to abide by that.

Jeff, good point to check the bolts on the side bays. I went out and checked mine, the bays looked very secure on the welded frame. I could not find the 3/8 bolts.
