Did Winnebago ever build any Sunovas on diesel chassis as announced last year? I tried finding these units searching dealer inventories with no success. Any info?

Are you sure it was a Sunova?

Yes. Last year they announced the Suncruiser on the Freightliner FRED as well as the Sunova and Sunstar on the Workhorse W20D front engine diesel chassis. On their product page they show these models available either in gas or diesel. I have seen no diesel nor is the diesel chassis listed in the specs. I am curious if anyone knows the status.

Perhaps I should just drop a line to Winnie. Yes, I will do that. Thanks

Someone in another thread a while back said the FRED option was something like $18,000 -- and that you can only get a propane generator if you go diesel (either WH or FRED). Given that, it's not surprising that dealers don't picture a lot of demand for it, and figure that a customer that really wants it isn't going to go anywhere.

I may be the only one curious but figured I'd post what I learned about Sightseer/Sunova models on diesel chassis. Per Winnebago, one could special order a Sightseer/Sunova on a diesel WH chassis for MY 2010. Did not specify whether or not any were actually made and sold. I haven't been able to locate any as I am curious about owners experience with this combination.

Got second reply from Winnebago. Not being offered on 2011s. Obviously not very popular.

Interesting news. Kind of surprising they'd drop it, the engineering is done. But at like $15,000 I can see why they weren't getting more takers.

They might be a bit premature in dropping the diesel option before actually giving it a chance! There are still WH Gassers available, although they are becoming increasingly rare. Ford is also talking about dropping the V10. Until a replacement gasser is confirmed, tested and proven, the FRED may be the only front engine option available, and Winnebago may loose sales to other brands if they don't have lower end front engine coaches available!

Gotta P - That was my thinking for the future with the almost certain demise of large gas engines. Getting a step and finding out what the new diesels will do. Costs are always a factor. Of course, close to $10K could be saved by not doing full-body paint jobs on the entire product line. I know, I know, looks sell and mechanicals not so much.
