Sunstar 35F Rear A/C Power Selector Switch

DW and I just bought a 2011 Sunstar 35F with 30 amp shore power. There is a Rear Air Conditioner Power Selector Switch to be set to either POWERCORD or GENERATOR.

The manual doesn't really say why this must be set, and I'm assuming it has to do with running the rear AC through the PCS so its load can be managed while on shore power, and separated from the PCS while on generator power. But I don't know if that's correct or just a flight of fancy on my part, and I like to understand what's going on so if somebody could clue me in I'd greatly appreciate it.

As stated in the Owners manual, turn the switch to the current source or the EMS will not operate correctly and the AC unit will not operate either.
Take a look at the drawings on the Winnebago site for your setup and you can see exactly what it does.

Firstly, the manual for my 2011 does not say that the EMS will not operate correctly. It only says that "The rear air conditioner may not operate properly if the switch is not in the proper position for the power source being used."

It doesn't even say that it won't operate properly, but only that it may not. And it doesn't even hint at the reason why.

You're right, I could try to decipher the wiring diagrams, but I took the lazy way out and asked if anybody here could confirm my suspicion that it has to do with bypassing the EMS when running on the generator.

affreeman, the generator in you coach has two 120VAC outputs. Your coach has a 30amp service so it can only use one of the 120VAC outputs from the generator. So when you place the switch in generator mode, one generator output goes to the rear AC unit and the other goes to the breaker box.
When you select power cord both AC units are fed from the breaker box.
Note: when in generator mode the EMS will not show the current going to the rear AC unit because it is wired directly to the generator.

Thanks Grant. That's what I thought and it's good to have that confirmed.

I wish the manual would just say what's going on so I can understand how it functions and not just have to rely on rote memorization of steps to do.
