Surprising Heater Problem

For those of you with older (1999-2002) Adventurers for sure and maybe others.

In trouble shooting a noisy fan, I stumbled on another problem.

Prelude, the heater and its cage need to be removed, not as big a deal as it sounds.

In the plenum chamber for the warm air (to the direct front of the heater), there is metallic tape sealing a seam between two metal panels. On my unit, the tape had split leaving a largish opening for warm air to escape. I have re-taped these seams. They are buggers to reach since I am working at arms length through a rather small opening.

Not quite done yet so I can't comment on how effective this has been. The seam is above the gas tank so it is possible to never notice the hot air escaping.

I don't know how pervasive this problem is but if you think that the heater is not working as well as it did, this might help.

Not all motorhomes are created equal. Winnebago provided an access panel to get to the heater assembly on the 35B, 35U, and the 37G models. The 32V model is a whole different story. The coach heater is behind the water heater. There is no access panel, and the water heater has to be removed to get to the coach heater. The only other alternative is to try to squeeze 1 arm through a narrow opening along side the water heater where the water pump is located.

I had to do a few repairs on plumbing in the area and it was a real pain (literally) to get into and out. Since there is no way you can get your head and an arm in the area all work has to be done by sense of touch.
