I have a 97 Vectra Gran Tour(gas) on a 36' F53 chassis with tag axle. I just discovered the brakes on the tag axle have fallen apart (brake pads, springs, adjuster, magnet, basically everything). From the looks of the brakes, it doesn't appear that hey have worked for some time. What is the purpose of the tag axle brake, and do they operate in conjunction with the hydraulic brakes or indepedently? Will a brake replacement kit include all the necessary parts to replace all the worn out parts? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

It would probably be better to get a loaded backing plate, and just put the whole works on together. The brakes on the tag axle are controlled by an electric brake controller, like you would have on a truck towing a travel trailer. it should be mounted on the dash or under it, near the steering column.

Thanks, Terry. I will check it out. I am having a difficult time finding parts. Winnebego told me I had to go to chassis manufacturer (Ford), Ford told me the tag axle was added by Winnebego, and Winnebego can't find a parts list for tag axle brakes. Ron

The tag axle is probably made by Dexter. If you can verify that it is a Dexter, you can get the parts from them.

Thanks, Nick. I checked it out, and that is what I have. I just have to take the brakes off so that I can match them with replacement. thanks again. Ron
