The awning that never works

So, I have had my 27N Vista for five years. And out of all those years I haven't been able to use my awning but a handful of times. The struts keep breaking. I actually carry spares with me now. I wanted to see if anybody out there has had similar problems. The awning is very long on this model and I'm wondering if the weight could be too much for the struts. I just had a strut replaced before my current trip and it is already broken again. I'm fed up with it. Any ideas?

Any chance something is out of alignment?

2008 Winnebago Adventurer 38J, W24, dozens of small thirsty ponies. Retired after 40 years wrenching on trucks! 2010 Ford Ranger toad with GSXR 1100T or KLR650 in the back. Easy to spot an RVer, they always walk around with a screwdriver or wrench in one hand!

The awning that never works

I have a 2015 27N that we bought new. We have put 45K miles including three trips to Alaska without any problems with the awning. We have never used it a lot, but it has always worked.
However, this morning, it would not unwind without my help. I’m not sure if I have the same problem as you. I think that one or both of my shock absorber type struts(?) is worn out. Are these the “struts” you are talking about, and if so where do you get replacements for them? I know that when I replaced the strut on the entry door they came in different lengths and strengths. Perhaps we could use a stronger strut for the awning?

To answer a couple of questions, I have contacted Dometic a number of time with promises to research my problem and call me back. To date, that has been useless and no one ever calls back. As to the last post, yes I am referring to those same struts. I purchased my last strut from camping world as it was on sale. I did find out that the strut is rated to handle up to a 21' awning and the 27n has a 19' so that shouldn't be the issue. I am taking it into the shop next week and my service center is going to check the entire arm. Once I have any further info, I will post it. Interesting that the 2015 is just starting to have issues and mine didn't either to begin with. Hope that your problems won't be ongoing.
