Thermostat problem

I have a 1999 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom that cools OK with a 2-stage basement unit, but the thermostat (a Coleman-Mack model 6636-344) shows a room temp anywhere from 6-10 degrees higher than the actual room temperature causing the fans and compressors to run constantly. If I put a fan blowing directly on the AC, it tends to lower the temp to within a couple of degrees of the true room temp.

When I take a reading on the wall where the thermostat is mounted, I find that the temp is a constant 89 F. The wall is also on the side of my fridge. I put a silicone insulator between the wall and thermostat, but to no avail. I thought of a recalibration but that won't solve the problem if the fridge is on propane, just create another in the opposite area. Any suggestions? The thermostat is new as of last fall when PPL replaced it prior to our purchase.

I haven't paid that much attention to what the thermostat says; I just bump it up or down until I'm comfortable. Two suggestions: turn one of the ceiling vents to blow toward the thermostat and/or pull the refrigerator and put more insulation between it and the wall.
I bought my '99 Ultimate Freedom from PPL on 10/26/11. Did we get sisters?

I'll bet I know exactly which one you bought. It came in just a short while before we closed on ours. Any problems?

No problems. We are very pleased with the coach. I'm having fun catching up on all the wear and tear issues that previous owners got behind on.

...that may be the reason the thermostat is mounted AWAY from the fridge on my '03 UA ...thanks for being in the "test group"! Our thermostat is across from the refrigerator on the end of a cabinet ...but it is always several degrees cooler than the thermometer we have mounted just behind the driver seat even though I try try to ensure we do NOT have a ceiling vent aimed at it. I think the suggestions aready made are good ...shoot a ceiling vent toward it and then adjust to comfort regardless of what the number is.

Thanks for the info Guys! Other than the AC problem ( and with 100F + heat here in Southeast Texas, that can be a problem), our MH has been basically trouble free (for the most part). For a while we even wondered what the previous owners used it for, because it didn't "feel" previously lived in. But, I think were going to take care of that!

Had to do the vent towards the t'stat in my Journey also, and like previously stated, I just set it to whats comfortable.

With that setup, mine is usually pretty close with actual temp.

I had a similar problem in my 5'er. It seems the hole in the wall where the wires come through to the thermostat were allowing warmer air from the interior of the wall to get to the thermostat. I just plugged up this hole with some soft closed cell foam that can be easily removed if necessary.
Problem solved.

Like bsimonds I don't pay that much attention to the thermostat reading. Too many variables with it just getting it's reading through those plastic slots. Comfort is much more important. I do have to be careful how I want the air vents around it aimed.
