I've been thinking about modifying the audio system in my Itasca. I want to upgrade the DVD player to be able to play real 5.1. Next, it would be nice to upgrade the dash radio to a more true 4 channel setup so that the fader will control the front to back balance.
I am willing to purchase a 110V based audio receiver/preamp to achieve the first goal. I have been looking at the wiring diagrams but am having trouble figuring out how and where the speaker wiring is and how it is run.
It almost appears that the speakers for the left and right are wired in parallel with each other. I would need to seperate those apart to be able to wire those to a different pair of amps. The radio/tv speaker switch has its own set of challenges.
I would also like to clean up all that noise coming from my speakers when the TV is turned off.
I've looked through the wiring diagrams but I can't find anything on the speakers. Am I missing something? Is there a diagram that shows how the speaker wires are routed throughout the coach? Is anyone else thinking about such mods that would like to compare notes?

What you want to do is exactly what Winnebago did for 2006. Winnebago is now using a Sony home amp rather than the trouble prone 12v power amp they had been using. Check the 2006 wiring diagrams.

Hi Ho: We bought our 2000 35U new and realized that the A/V system was lacking. It took about 2 months to replace the TV and add a receiver/power amp with DVD player. This works well, but does use quite a bit of battery power when running through the inverters. Don't know about your coach, but all speaker wires were under the front dash and were easy to identify. (We didn't even have a wiring diagram) I replaced the speakers with Bose, added a powered subwoofer and now have real 5.1 audio just like at home. Our 35U does have an auxilary audio power amplifier under the passenger foot area, but we got rid of it used a different amplifier that I already had for the subwoofer. Be sure that the receiver fits in the space you want to use. We put the receiver and a Dish receiver in the left side compartment above the driver.
