Just got our retirement coach in March and already have put 2500 miles on it and just LOVE it.
Question...
I am going to start towing our Saturn, 98 SL2, and was wondering if there will be much difference than when I was not towing. Mileage, climbs, or anything I should be made aware of?? Our previous RV was a diesel so I am curious as to what this gas motor will do. (See Sig.)

Our first long trip will be from San Diego to Albany, Oregon in June to the NW FMCA Rally.

Any info would be greatly appricated.

Thanks,
David

Our 2001 Adventurer 32V on the Ford chassis is a little smaller than yours, and we also started out not towing anything. Within the first year we decided we needed to tow something along rather than try to rent everywhere we went.
We bought a RoadMaster dolly with electric brakes (750lbs) and started towing our Buick LeSabre (3,550 lbs). Even at 4,300 lbs you don't notice it behind you. We've towed that combination almost 30,000 miles , up and down the mountains and coast to coast The only problem we encountered was a flat on the dolly. This year we started towing our Jeep four down. It's a little shorter, and a little lighter than the car/dolly combination at about 3,750 lbs.

The published weight of your 1998 SL2 is less than 2,400 lbs so I doubt that you'll feel much if anything in the way the coach performs. Even though the weight of your toad is less than 3,000 lbs I strongly suggest you add some type of auxillary braking system. We use a RoadMaster 9000 auxillary brake system. It's about the same cost as the box on the floor models but you only have to remove an air cylinder when you want to drive the car. It does take a while to install the system on the coach, but since it has a built in air compressor that pumps to 120 lbs you can use it to air up the tires or blow dirt off things.

Be sure to hook the lights, brake lights, and turn signals into those on the coach. You wouldn't want someone plowing into you because they couldn't see you were stopping or turning.
