I have the Allison With two side by side filters that drop straight down. Is this a job for a mechanic. Or a do it yourself job?

I am not a mechanic, but I am told that there may be several drain points in the transmission to get all the tranny oil out. If you only do the main drain, you may still have 3-4 qts or more left in the system.

I do know that the total volume is about 19-20+ qts of oil. I personally don't want to mess with the draining and disposal of the oil.

I do recommend TranSynd synthetic if you do not have it in today. You'll need to go thru 2 drain cycles at the Dexron intervals before you can assume you have 100% TranSynd in the system and use the longer change intervals.

I'm aware that many folks have done this job themselves. Like Pusherman, I didn't have a large drain pan so I let my RV mechanic do mine recently. I do the engine oil/filter change and chassis lube myself (unless I would be near FL factory at Gaffney..then I'd let them do it).

My RV guy knows I'm pretty handy with tools and said I could have easily done the tranny service myself (he was in process of closing his business..retiring..so he was suggesting what I could DIY).

Hello;
I did mine two weekends ago, not too much of a mess, only the amount of oil is the thing to watch for.
You can do it in stages, messy but possible, thats what I did, oil is just warm.
The other thing to watch for is the setting of the filters in the pockets, also the mounting bolts need TLC, torque to 38 to 45 F/LBs. They well start by hand.

Take you time, scale is a 4.8 out of 10.

If you can change engine oil/filter you can change transmission, both hold about 19-20 quarts. At least my 2004 Meridian does.
