Hello, all....

When I unlocked the entry door on our 2004 Journey, the tumbler assembly came out with the key. My first impression was that someone had been messing with the MH, trying to gain unauthorized entry. I don't really know. Using the key, I attempted to turn the assembly in the door; it would not turn. After several unsuccessful attempts to replace the tumbler assembly, I removed the rubber ring (gasket?) and tried again. This time the assembly locked itself in place and now I can lock/unlock the door (glad I had the door open while trying this). Trouble is, I cannot get the tumbler assembly out again to replace the gasket. This could be problematic in wet/icy conditions.

A call to Lichtsinn resulted in finding out that Trimark has a special tool which aids in the removal/replacement of this tumbler assembly. I wonder why the tumbler came out to begin with?

Any ideas on how to homebrew a tool to remove the assembly again?

Wendell

Is this the deadbolt cylinder or the bottom cylinder...the deadbolt cylinder can be removed without a tool,,,but the bottom one cannot....

Yes, it is the lower lock (not the deadbolt).

The big mystery to me is how did the assembly come out on my key without a tool. I just turned the key, withdrew the key (I thought) and out comes the tumbler assembly. Could be someone else has an unauthorized Trimark tool. Scary...our neighborhood is changing.

So I suppose that if that someone has an unautorized tool, that the deadbolt tumbler (which does not require a tool?) saved the day.

Or it could be a serandipitous event.

I once had the cylinder come out of my bottom lock....shoved it back in and it locked inside,,,but later the latching mechanism on the back side of the assy fell off....I had to replace the whole lock.....contacted trimark and they sent a updated one,,,which is not hard to install....you can request the same key numbers for the two locks.....the key to the deadbolt can only be duplicated by a licensed locksmith for trimark,,,,the bottom key is not that secure....I have used my bottom key to unlock several motor homes,,,when at some dealership I like to see how many it will fit...I have the electronic lock system,,,but no longer trust it after seeing how it all operates...I only use the deadbolt now when stopping as it is to easy to open the bottom lock....If the bottom cylinder is no longer connected to the lever inside,,,I think you will need to replace the entire setup....I had to....
