We recently discovered a slight leak at the top of the right side windshield of our '02 40' Ultimate Freedom. It doesn't appear to have been leaking for long, but the wood backing of the dash front is damp and deteriorating. We will repair the windshield. Has anyone had experience with replacing the right side and top panels of the dash?

The dash A/C ducts also sweat quite a bit. Is that a common problem?

Looking closely at the clearance lights at the top of the front cap. Many leak and seldom are checked

Its more than likely your windshield frame is rusted. This is a common problem in your vintage rig. Im not sure what the fix is but some have had the windshield removed and the frame repaired. My last rig had the same problem and there are 5 or more members in my winny club with the same problem.

My front clearance lamp "gaskets" are like sponge rubber that sucks water in. I sealed them, and check/reseal them at least once a year since. I also have found one lamp that somehow gets water inside the lens in a heavy rain ...not condensation as they all will sometimes, but an inch or more! I found the front/lower screw on that light badly rusted, and the obvious route that water was passing through to get to the top of the window frame which rusted immediately below that area. I sealed the screws on all the clearance lamps.

Some owners have pulled the outer rubber (it is not a part of the windshield seal), and cleaned the rusted areas with rust treatment then sealed the leaks wih windshield sealer. The rubber can normally be re-used -- it pops into a channel that is secured with double-sided tape. If the rust advances far enough, it can crack the glass. At that point, removal and restoration of the metal would be required.
