Understanding Journey 39 big slide mechanism

2006 Journey 39. The large slide on the drivers side. There is a bolt on both sides that is loose when it is slid in. The bolt right above the thumb screw. The bolt is very long. On the front slide mechanism the thumb screw is completely loose. On the back slide mechanism the thumb screw is tight. I am not sure if the bolts are tight when it is slid out. I never looked. Any idea what these do and how or if they should be adjusted? The two pictures one at a small distance and one close up. Thanks for you inputs.

Those are used if you have to manually retract the slide (see you owner's manual for more info).

To add to Chris's and Pauls comments,
Your slide(s) are powered by HWH Hydraulic rams. As are your jacks. When you push the toggle for "Extend", the pump goes into action and, powers up the manifold and, certain solenoids, that lead to those rams, that extend the slides. When you push the toggle for "Retract", the same system jumps into action only, it's in reverse, bring the slide IN instead of out.

Now, in the event that for some reason, your pump fails, or you blow a hydraulic line or fitting, and your slide is OUT, it may need to be retracted MANUALLY. In order to do that, you'll have to get out your trusty wrench or, socket or, whatever you plan on using and, get ready to crank on those bolt heads for quite a while. But, normally, since you'll be manually forcing fluid back into the reservoir, you need to release a valve, on one of the solenoids in the manifold so the fluid can cruise on by and, go back into the reservoir.

I've never had to do it but, I understand that, manually cranking one of those slides back in by hand is a serious chore and, ultra time consuming. So, if it happens, don't be in a hurry, 'cause you ain't going anywhere, anytime soon.
