unstable Sightseer - steering stabilizer?

We bought a 29 foot 2005 Winnebago Sightseer Class A that has quite a bit of road wandering. Is this normal? How do you remedy this situation? I've heard you can buy steering stabilizers to put on the RV that will help but I don't know anything about them. Any information is appreciated! THanks!

Welcome aboard...

First a question...which chassis are you using?

Next, you need toget the rig weighed and make sure you have the proper tire pressure for the load.

Next you need to get the front end aligned with the RV loaded for a trip.

Once you confirm all of the above,and it still has handling problems, now we look at suspension modifications and stabilizers.

Some times the solution is simple,sometimes it is not.

The Sightseer is on Ford Chasis with the V10 and has only 3000 miles on it. We took it on its maiden voyage of about 2000 miles, during the trip, it tended to wander and react with everything on the road. It took considerable effort to maintain straight ahead. It had a very light load and the air pressure was at 85psi.

As far as the alignment is concerned, the rig is brand new and we assumed that its alignment was fine. How often do we need to check it?

Herkyflyer, the alignment is supposed to be set at the factory by the coach builder, but it is with an empty coach. Once you load the chassis with all of your goodies and supplies, the suspension will settle and the front end geometry will change. Often enough to have adverse effects on drivability.

My experience has been to get the coach to a NON-Ford shop, an independent truck suspension and alignment bhop and get it aligned with it loaded to a normal travel load.

As for mods on the newer Ford chassis, others on the forum should be able to offer assistance.

We have an 04 Sightseer 35N on a workhorse chassis. Found the same problem. We have fixed it by installing a rear track bar. Took so much of the wandering away that I can now drive in a relaxed position with 1 hand.

I have a 2004 Sightseer 30B and it came with the optional shocks and stabilizer package. I run 85 psi in the tires and 90 psi in the front air bags. I guess after 8000 miles that I have gotten accustomed to the handling, but it does just fine to me. Very little wandering. I think that in the beginning, I tried to correct for every litte "wander". But now I just let it "wander" a bit and accept the fact that it's not a sports car.
