Vacuum pump stays on

I have a 98 Chieftian pusher. When the heater is set to off a vacuum pump stays on that I hear from under the dash. While it is in the vent or heat position it stays off. Does anyone know if I have to chase a vacuum line or is it in an actuator switch? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I had the (vacuum lines) replaced to fix the same thing on my 05. My manifold control unit was ok. I was in for other work when I had them replaced. Didn't want to do it myself.

Thank you for your reply. I do not want to do the work either. I am afraid it will be like chasing a short on an electrical line. I am told they will have to take the dash off. That to me is when you get bigger problems.

frooms01 An easy check is the hot water shut off valve up front. There is a rubber 90 deg adapter on some of them that cracks open with age. Vacuum is supplied to the water valve when the system is off and when max air is selected. The same vacuum line also goes to the two stage fresh air door which may be harder to check. Here is a link to a good resource.

vacuum leak solved

GRTHarris,
Thank you very much for your input. You were spot on in solving my problem. Although it was not the 90 degree elbow to the hot water valve it was the line to the 90 degree elbow. Thank you again for helping me solve this problem. I now will be able to ride down the road without having to have the vent or heat on in the coach.
Happy RVing to you. I know now mine will be a little more enjoyable.
Thank you
