We are returning from California to Missouri and noticed spots on our "Toad" that we traced to the coolant reservoir. It seems to be crazed in one spot with a lot of tiny cracks. This area is half way between the full and low marks on the tank. The tank is located inside the rear engine compartment. The engine is a Cummins 350 hp diesel. Has anyone else seen this same problem? Where did you go for a replacement? I stopped at a Cummins dealer and he said that the builder of the RV puts the part on, not cummins. I have a Freightliner chassie so I think that I may try them first, as Winnebago gets the chasse assymbled I think. If anyone else has had this problem and know the replacement part number, or where to get one please post back to me. Thanks for any comments, or assistance.

Do a search for "surge tank replacement", there are many entries some with step by step photos ref the replacement of the tank, freightliner sells them for about $105, thats the easy part, installation is time consuming but many on this forum have done it on their own

I have had the same problem and EASILY replaced it myself. Spartan supplied the part for my chassis.......about $30. Get it replaced as soon as possible and check coolant level frequently until you get it replaced. Every time the coolant expands you will lose coolant via the tank cracks. When you lose enough you will overheat the engine.

This explains my experience with the surge tank ...

Surge_Tank

On my Journey there is an alarm that sounds when the coolant level gets low ... I travelled a couple of hundred miles and had to add coolant once ...

My toad needed some serious washing ...
