We had a hose fail on the water heater today, water was flowing everywhere over and under the bench seat. Those of you that have this model know where the safe is. I can tell you that it does hold water. When I opened it it my handguns and some paperwork were submerged along with the ammo I kept in it. I am glad we had no important papers in it like passports or titles. This could have easily happened if the washer dryer combo had a water leak also.

Fortunately we had just parked and heard water flow in the bedroom. I think I will be moving the safe to a location that has no water or heat near it. I think I will always turn off the coming into the coach when we leave it.

Jim

Sounds like an unsafe safe. I would think a safe would have a fire rating and be waterproof. I'll have to investigate my safe and probably replace it with something more safe or use the current one for keys or such.

Jim,
Your post is timely. One of my check valves is going bad. I have seen water dripping around the corner of the coach but I have not found a leak. Which hose leaked? There is a by-pass hose and the inlet and outlet for the hot water tank. Did you just replace them all? How did you access them. All through the little hole behind the by-pass valve?

I would not call that box a safe... It is pretty flimsy. We have purchased a small Sentry safe that is rated for fire and heat for storage media. We carry essential papers and USB drives there but also have all documents scanned into computer and backed-up multiple times for storage in different locations, including outside the RV. If we remember, we also turn water off at spigot when we leave the coach. We've heard plenty of horror stories of broken "stuff" and pets turning on faucets.

You have reminded me that I also turn water off at the spigot when leaving for sightseeing - when I remember.

Hmmm! I don't have a safe but I am now considering putting those papers I do carry in a zip-lock bag, even the weapon(s).
