I am need to replace the external voltage regulator and need the location of the voltage regulator the system has a 104 amp alternator for the engine 12v dc system, engine is a Chevy 454 with auto tranny.

Yes I know that most newer Chevy alternator have a built in voltage regulator, but this particular model has a 104 amp alternator with a external regulator.

I had the alternator checked and it was OK,
suspect the voltage regulator as the battery voltage fluctuates between 12 and 14 volts with the engine running at idle.

Yeah, that sounds like the regulator's on its way out. Check your firewall, usually the voltage regulator isn't terribly far from the battery and alternator.

Least your voltage regulator isn't raising the voltage with the RPMs yet like the one in our old Suburban did when the regulator started going.

Wouldn't hurt to upgrade that alternator at some point as well, 100 amps is kinda underpowered for a coach with multiple batteries.

maybe you can upgrade to a ''1 wire'' larger capacity alternator with an internal regulator.
