Voyage 32H question

Hello,
I have a question as to what if any a 4" channel iron attached to fame on the passenger on one side if the fuel tank. extends down 4" or 5" below the bottom of the tank. I doesn't attach or seem to have any purpose as far as I can see except to carve up the street as a back out of my driveway. Does any one else have this on there rig?

We have a 09 Suncruiser 32H on the Ford Chasis. Just the other day while looking under the chasis to verify jacks were up, i noticed the same sort of metal channel hanging below our gas tank...I have no idea what it is for, but it certainly is noticable.

Same piece on ours. It's about even with the bottom of the tank though. I've always assumed it's something left over from the 18" shortening our chassis got after Ford built it, but that never really made sense to me. Why weld it? Why leave it?

Curious if anyone knows the real answer.

Winny told me it was to protect the gas tank,like if one of your set of rear wheels were to go in a giant pot hole. I cut about three inches off of mine so I can get in my driveway.

I had a 2003, 32 foot Brave. It also had the same piece of channel. At GNR one year, I also asked Owner Relations about it and I got the same answer as Whaler. I left mine alone to protect the tank.

I asked Winnebago about it and got this reply. Interesting I say.. Included is a diagram of the coach and bracket placement.

The structure in the photos you sent me is in the upper right corner zone
D-3, TUBE ASM-STANDOFF 143950-03-chat. The purpose is to meet a requirement
calling
for substantial frame structure (defined as can be raised with a jack) lower
than the L.P. tank. Hope that is useful
