Hi folks,

Can an '05 Voyage 33V (workhorse chassis) handle anything bigger then a 5k hitch? I've done the math and I think I'll need to tow 6k or trade cars :(

Thanks!

mcewena, Your Valley Hitch is only rated for 5,000 pounds. That said you can pull all the way up to 26,000 pounds in any combination that you want. If your 33V is a lightweight which it is, you can tow a little more before your exceed the GCWR. Now again, IF your car is heavier than the 5,000 rating of the hitch you may have to visit getting un uprated the hitch.

In a 33 foot long version your chassis's rails are continuous to the back of the coach. Attaching a bigger hitch to 50,000 psi steel shouldn't be a problem. Problems can occur if an overloaded hitch is welded to a frame extension.

If you want to tow a 6,000 car, you need a bigger hitch and the motorhome can't weigh any more than 20,000 pounds.

Most Gas motor homes have very little wiggle room.. The MCGVW is 26000 pounds, the MH itself may well be 22000 pounds that leaves 4,000 for the towed, not the 5,000 the hitch is rated at.

Also, if you use a drop adapter.. that 5,000 may be 3,000 or less.

Mine has been upgraded.... To 4,000 with a drop hitch.
