Today I discovered a new water leak. Under heavy rain, it appears that water is coming in between metal layers of the frame around the window above the entry door. It runs down the side of the window frame and door frame to the step just inside the door, so isn't getting any carpet or walls wet. But doing anything about it will be complicated by the door awning mounted just above the window close enough so I cannot see the metal frame. The gap there has been sealed with silicone caulk, which is seeping water from several pinholes. There is also caulk in the gap along the top side of awning, but obviously water is getting into the gap area somewhere. I guess I could just slap more caulk on the gap where I can get to it, but not sure that would fix the problem. It looks like I may have to totally remove the awning to really see what is going on, and cure it. Has anyone here ever removed the awning over the door? If so, I'd like to hear about it, and what you found.

Paul ...

My awning was removed in an RV repair facility. My awning slides onto a track from the front of the coach. It is held in place by a screw and a pop rivet.

The tech removed the motor cover and then the outer cover of the awning itself ... he clipped the wires to the motor ... then he removed the screw and drilled out the rivet ... then using two long ladders he and a second tech carefully slid the awning forward and took it down ...

This is definitely not a one person job unless you have some sort of scaffolding to stand on.

Water leaks are hard to chase down. I have had a big problem with leaks. The repair shop could not stop the leaks. I had a leak that would end up on the inside step. It would only show up during hard rain.Allso it would do it on the drivers side too. After many tries at the repair shop I had them to pressurize the coach. The leaks was located where the roof gutter meets the front cap. I got to looking at the gutter and noticed that the gutter end right at the edge of the cap. When the water would come down the gutter it would hit the edge of the cap. I cleaned the seal of the cap and resealed the cap and put a #12 x 1" S.S screw where the cap come down the side and turn toward the front. Winnabago is doing that now.. It solved my problem. It's been done that way for a couple years. I don't known if this is your problem, but it might be something to look at.If you take a water hose and hold up there for awhile and see what happen.
